Doctor's Day Luncheon
In Tarrant County, we are fortunate to be surrounded by
excellent physicians who provide wonderful care for patients, contribute to the
community, and participate in leading us toward advances in Medicine. Many of
them work tirelessly on the behalf of legislation that protects the
physician-patient relationship. In honor of that, the Medical Society hosts a
free luncheon for all Tarrant County physicians in March to celebrate Doctors’
Day.
“The very first Doctors’ Day in 1933 consisted of a few
doctors’ wives putting together a luncheon for the local physicians in Winder,
Georgia, northeast of Atlanta. On March 30, 1958, the "Resolution
Commemorating Doctors' Day" was adopted by the United States House of
Representatives. In 1990, legislation was introduced in the House and Senate to
establish a national Doctors’ Day. Following overwhelming approval by both
houses of Congress, on October 30, 1990, President George Bush designating
March 30th as "National Doctors’ Day.’"
